Don’t Let Fear Run Your Life

Do you find yourself:

  • Not doing things you’d like because you’re afraid of what others might say, failing, succeeding, or the the unknown?

  • Not saying what you’d like because you’re afraid of what others might think or do?

Guess what? You’re experiencing, what I believe, 90% of the people on this planet do. And the great part? You don’t have to!

So let’s get down to business about fear.

Fear can run your life. It can keep you tightly bound, like a yo-yo that has no YO. (I came up with that line myself – kind of funny huh?)

It keeps you from being yourself, from living your dreams, from giving your gifts, from speaking your truth, from being happy. That’s a really big bummer for you and the rest of us.

Here’s the thing: there is healthy fear and there is unhealthy fear. The healthy fear is when it’s saving you from getting harmed, like a lightening storm – you know not to go to the top of the highest peak because you might get struck.

Or the exciting fear that says something is scary, but it has this combination of butterflies with it, because you know it will stretch you in a new and great way (you know what I’m talking about).

Then there is the unhealthy fear. The fear that comes from your ego. The one that says, “You better not do that or they’ll think you’re crazy!” or “Don’t say what you’re thinking or she/he will leave you.” It worries about all the what if’s that almost NEVER happen.

It’s time to tell your ego something – “Go take a hike.”

Your ego is keeping you from being happy, being peaceful, being free, and being ALIVE.

“So what’s THE secret to not letting fear run your life,” you ask?

Here it is:

The secret has two parts.

  1. (This is your spiritual tip for the day) BE WITH THE FEAR. Don’t run away from it. When you know you want to say something and you don’t because you’re afraid of the “what if’s,” notice where the fear is in your body. Notice what it feels like, what physical sensations you experience, and stare it right in the face, welcome it in.

WHAT YOU RESIST PERSISTS. If you want to stop feeling fearful, be with the fear, not run from it. Whatever you resist having will only make it stronger (anger, anxiety, jealousy, fear, etc.) – this is a guarantee.

  2. Uncover your courage. At the end of your life (you don’t know when it will be – the biggest unknown of them all), do you want to have settled behind your fears because it was comfortable, safe, and a little more predictable? Or do you want to know you lived life from every ounce of possibility, YES, and aliveness you could?

The choice is yours. You have courage. I know this because you’re reading my blog and I know you wouldn’t have signed up for my ebook or newsletter if you didn’t have courage.

Bottom line: TRUST that when you have that feeling of the healthy “excited butterflies” fear, follow it – even if you don’t know where it will lead you.
