Your thoughts create your reality – 4 steps to change

When I read this sentence my jaw dropped, “90% of the thoughts you have today are the same ones you had yesterday, and the day before that, and the day before that.”

It’s astounding really. Yet, we want life to be different (I can tell you many stories of myself in this boat). Either our relationship to be different, our home to be different, our job to be different, our community to be different, our government to be different, or ourselves to be different.

Our chest pulls and tightens with every wanting that isn’t fulfilled. Yet our thoughts remain the same. The expectations swirling around and around in our head not being met.

I was talking with a dear friend yesterday when I said, “Your thoughts create your reality.” He said, “I disagree. When I’m at an event and I turn around after getting a beer and my friends are gone, that’s my reality – they don’t want to be around me.”

I said with a knowing in my heart, “When your belief is I’m not loveable, that’s how you’ll perceive that event. If your belief is I’m complete and whole as I am, your mind will say something like, “Oh, I wonder where they went, maybe they needed to go use the bathroom.” And there’s no reactivity inside, only a curiosity.”

He replied with a “hmmm.” I could see his wheels turning. “Where there’s a wall, there’s a door.” He was starting to see something different.

If you maintain the same thoughts day after day, very little will change in your life. Every thought is a communicator with, not only the cells of your body, but all the energy around you too.

If your thoughts stay in the limited realm like, “There’s no way I can do that.” Of course you can’t, because you believe it to be so.

But if you imagine a different way or a different outcome, then you open your energy up to something greater.

Here’s what’s super important. You’ve GOT to be open to the time frame of what you want to create happens in. If you desire to have your health back, you MUST be open to the time it takes, not the time you want.

If you desire for your relationship to feel warm and fuzzy, you MUST be open to the time frame it takes, not the time frame you want.

If you desire your true calling to come with clarity, you MUST be open to the time frame it takes, not the time frame you want (it was 8 years of desiring until I had clarity with mine!).

“So how do I change my thoughts?” you might ask.

  1. Believe that you can change your thoughts (this is key).
  2. Open up to the possibility that there is more to life than what you’re experiencing through your senses (seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting, etc.).
  3. Get clear about what you want to cultivate within you – is it health, is it joy, is it gratitude, is it energy?
  4. Say it 100x a day. Literally. Every time you walk, every time you do the dishes, every time you sit on the toilet, brush your teeth, drive somewhere. Say it over and over and over again. This plants the seed into your subconscious mind.

There are many more steps to this, but these four are big and will get you started.

And be open to the time frame it takes!
