Your Body has the Answer

Each week I write a blog for my website (well, most weeks).

I don’t have them planned out. I don’t know what I’ll be writing about next week or the week after. Ideas float thru my head like a Stone Fly floating downstream. They come and they go.

But the ones that stick? The ideas that come to fruition that you read?

They’re the ones that get noticed in my body.

Let me explain.

You see, when the ideas float thru, I listen, not to my head, but to my body to which story wants to be written today.

Here’s an example. I was out walking today, lot’s of ideas floating around, “Well, I could write about this, or that, or maybe I should write about this other idea.” What I noticed in my body was the lack of excitement for any of them. That’s the first clue.

Then, when the idea came up for the story written below, my body yelled, “Yes!”

What does a “Yes!” feel like? It’s like when you stand up at a baseball game because you’re so excited for your team, or when someone calls you on the phone to tell you you just won a trip to Bahamas, all expenses paid (well, imagine what it would be like).

There’s excitement in your chest, maybe butterflies in your stomach, you feel light (maybe even feel like flying!). That’s the “Yes!”

Your body NEVER lies. NEVER. It’s one of the few times I use ultimate words of always and never. If everyone made decisions based on what their body was telling them, not their minds, we’d have a different planet, and a lot more peace and happiness.

I use to live from my head. Basing my decisions on the voices of should’s or suppose to’s from my own beliefs or those of others, or from fears, but no longer (and life is so much easier and purposeful because of it!). I relearned this lesson in my business this summer.

My business coach told me very directly, “I don’t like that you’re calling yourself a Spiritual Teacher.” I looked at her with my head tilted sideways. She went on to say, “It carries a lot of baggage for people and you’ll turn folks away if you use it – don’t use it.”

My body sank, my heart sank. “What do I do with that info?” I thought.

I decided the best thing to do was listen to her. After all, I was paying her a lot of money to tell me that, she must know.

So I started taking it out of my marketing materials, ignoring the sadness I was feeling in my body. I talked to my spiritual teacher about it, with tears surfacing (there’s a big clue). He said, “Yes, she’s right, it will turn people off, but do what feels right to you.”

I continued to hem and haw. “I should listen to her, she knows this stuff. She has a million dollar business.” I talked with friends, still feeling unsettled about it. One friend finally said, after listening to me question and waver back and forth, “Well use it!”

That’s all it took. As soon as she said that, I said, “I will!” and I felt my whole body relax. The lightness came back. I felt a “Yes!” from head to toe. That was my Truth. There was no denying it.

I am at peace with my decision. I feel great about it actually. It was a true test to stand in my Truth. I am a Spiritual Mentor, and for those folks that it causes them to flee, they’re not who I will best serve.
